As a Internet Marketing Strategist I often find that SME's believe that having a website alone gets them discovered in search online, this unfortunately is a misconception, without local SEO it's not likely.

The truth is that in tough times most big companies up their marketing budget as to small business owners often take in the belt here.

My question to you as a SME is why do you think they do that, why do you think that as a large business they even try to market?

It's simple!

Because they have to, like for any enterprise out there it is an continueos process for a small space in many consumers minds called "Top of Mind"

We know that search happens in micro moments throughout the day in the clients mind, in the car stuck in traffic, sitting in a coffee shop, in the elevator and it is at this point the consumer turns to her laptop, tablet or smartphone for a quick answer.

This is where one of the biggest things in search "geolocation" kicks in, Google pinpoints your location, they check their database for the MOST RELEVANT results and they serve it up to the searcher in a split second.

Geolocation and local SEO gives the local company a survival chance, an opportunity to compete for the business on the 1st page of Google or on Facebook and other social media because these orginisations know that most consumers shop withing a 5 to 10 mile radius of their home.
